What We Do
Restoration works to create a diverse and thriving Central Brooklyn community through the attraction of local businesses and the development of mixed-income housing.
From its inception, Restoration has remained an ardent advocate for the preservation and development of affordable housing in Central Brooklyn. We partner with for-profit developers and government agencies to maintain and improve the affordable housing stock in Central Brooklyn, working to ensure that Bed Stuy remains an accessible, mixed-income community. We remain committed to the belief that residents should be able to determine the outcomes in their own communities and pressure city officials and financial institutions alike to create a more inclusive and equitable development process.
Our projects seek to preserve the unique character of Central Brooklyn while attracting new businesses and services to the area. We and our development partners prioritize inclusive, sustainable, and community-driven projects that answer the calls of today with the solutions of the future.
In addition, Restoration attracts new businesses to the centrally located hub of Bed-Stuy to increase local employment opportunities and improve consumer choice. Restoration was a key player in the founding of the Bed Stuy Gateway Business Improvement District (BID) in 2008 and continues to provide space and support for businesses along Fulton Street and beyond.
Restoration’s programs have attracted over $500 million in investments to Central Brooklyn and have catalyzed major physical and economic improvements to Fulton Street, Bed Stuy’s main commercial corridor.
Since 2001, Restoration has partnered in the development or preservation of over 1,200 units of affordable housing, with hundreds more units in the pipeline.
