2019 Tax Season Frequently Asked Questions

The 2019 Tax Season begins on January 28th and will last until April 15th. Professional tax preparers and financial counselors will assist in preparing returns and ensuring you receive the best financial advice for you and your family. This service is FREE of charge and open to all New Yorkers regardless of immigration status.

Monday-Thursday: 5:30PM-9PM
Friday: *Senior Citizen only* 10AM - 2PM
Saturday-Sunday: 10AM - 5PM

Economic Solutions Center North (630 Flushing Avenue)
Monday-Friday: 10AM - 4PM
Wednesday: Until 7:30PM

Economic Solutions Center East (425 New Lots Avenue)
Monday-Friday: 10AM - 4PM
Wednesday: Until 7:30PM

Qualifications:
Be a New York State resident or worked in New York State in the past 12 months

  • If you earned less than $55K last year, you can have your taxes prepared with the following three service options below
  • If you earned more than $55K, schedule an appointment by calling 929-426-3314

 

Service Levels:
One-on-One – Sit with an individual tax preparer to process your tax return

Self-Prep – Add your financial information into our TurboTax software and a Tax Preparer will be there to assist you should you have any questions. You must have an email address and your 2016 tax return with you

Virtual – A Financial Counselor will help you plan all the aspects of your financial life and help you . Your tax returns will be completed in less than 5 days and emailed to you

 

Facts:

  • Dependents are considered children, parents, domestic partners, etc. in other words, person/persons who you supported financially for a full year
  • If you don’t have a bank account, you will receive a paper check via mail
  • Health Insurance: Although the Affordable Care Act has been challenged by the current administration, the end of the penalty for adults who forgo health insurance will not go into effect until 2019. Insurance is still mandatory; unless you qualify for a limited number of exemptions. The penalty for going uncovered for 2018 is $695 per adult or 2.5% of household income

  • Processing of Amendments and 2017, 2016, 2015 returns start on March 1st, 2018
  • ITIN applications/renewals for undocumented immigrants are accepted
  • The Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC), is a tax benefit available for low to moderate income earners with a qualified dependent
