Summer Youth Employment Program at Restoration
Summer has evaporated as quickly as it stormed in. After a short lived respite from books, teachers, and gym classes, students have returned to their classrooms. Instead of whiling away their time playing video games or hanging out with friends, many young people chose to do something different this year. They took part in Restoration’s Summer Youth Employment Program (SYEP) and gained valuable work experience and a stipend.
The 2017 SYEP session officially came to an end on August 11th, 2017. Over a pizza lunch, Chief Operating Officer Dyrnest Sinkler spoke to a group of 25 SYEP youth. Discussions about dreams and aspirations for the future filled the room. Career choices included football playing, mechanical engineering, dentistry, flight attendant, and many other occupations. Restoration employed over 200 participants in its operations, spanning departments like Asset management, Custodial, and RestorationArts.
Year after year, Restoration has created to employment and internship opportunities for a growing number of young Brooklynites. SYEP provides New York City youth between the ages of 14 and 24 with paid summer employment for up to six weeks in July and August. Participants work in entry-level jobs in a variety of industries including, Arts and Recreation, educational services, and financial services.
