Restoration selected as Semi-Finalist in Age Smart Employer Awards

January 17th- Bedford Stuyvesant Restoration Corporation was selected as a semi-finalist in the Age Smart Employer Awards. Over 100 applicants from businesses of varying with fewer than 20 employees, to larger employers with over 2,000, were interviewed from a variety of industries, including food service, education, and social service. An honor given to workplaces that boast an age diverse workplace that values older workers. This honor, which began in 2012, is awarded by the Robert N. Butler Columbia Aging Center, a department of Columbia University Mailman School of Public Health. It is the first program in New York City to celebrate employers whose policies and practices promote generational diversity in the workforce and, in particular, highlight older workers.

An Age Smart workplace is one that includes opportunities for internal advancement, responsiveness to employee’s ideas to improve work environment, a reinforcing a culture that workers are valued. IT also encourages strong benefits and training at all career levels, job restructuring to accommodate employee’s changing needs, phased retirement, and work opportunities for retirees. The awards program began as a culture-change strategy to celebrate businesses whose practices ensure work for employees of all ages.
