Resilience is: remaining steadfast, even in the face of a pandemic.

For the past year at Bedford Stuyvesant Restoration Corporation, resilience has meant maintaining Brooklyn’s vitality even in the face of the unprecedented effects of COVID-19.

Just over one year into a pandemic that brought our global and local economy to a halt, we honor and express gratitude for the incredible resilience of the people of Central Brooklyn. As critical needs skyrocketed, Restoration’s holistic model kicked into high gear, providing emergency services across our spectrum of programs.

The Brooklyn Business Center immediately mobilized to secure $4.5 million in federal aid for our local businesses. Securing this crucial aid has kept businesses open and community members employed. We are conducting a full survey of the impacts of COVID-19 on the business community, and mobilizing additional resources to help businesses adapt to the opportunities and demands of the evolving economy.

Center for Healthy Neighborhoods works to ensure that Central Brooklyn has the resources it needs to live and thrive. Since the start of the pandemic, we have distributed over 8,000 meals and 10,000 pieces of personal protective equipment to low-income community members, and also lobbied to create a vaccination site at our headquarters, Restoration Plaza, to ensure equitable access to this life-saving vaccine. Healthy people are the backbone of healthy neighborhoods. We’re ensuring that our communities have equal access to the food and healthcare they need to continue to prosper.

The Center for Personal Financial Health moved our programs online so community members could safely continue to access financial, career and mental health counseling resources at the time when our neighbors needed it most. Additionally, with the support of the community, Restoration established an Emergency Cash Assistance Fund to flexibly support residents with food, transportation, computers, basic supplies, and rent.

We know it takes all of us doing our part and pitching in to keep Central Brooklyn healthy and prosperous. Reinforced by what we have experienced over the past year, we believe that the future of community is bright - especially when we are working together.

Join us in continuing this good work to build a more equitable and prosperous Brooklyn.

RESILIENCE: Meeting the critical needs of today while closing the racial wealth gap that determines a prosperous tomorrow.
