Moshood Creations sets up shop in Restoration Plaza
By Karen M. Jemmott
Moshood Creations and the Fashion Boutique’s founder Moshood Afariogun have been a fixture in Fort Greene for more than two decades. Originally from Lagos, Nigera, Moshood arrived in New York in the early 1980’s to make his mark in fashion and design. After years of tireless effort and hard work he opened his boutique in Brooklyn in 1994.
Moshood’s timeless pieces and fluid, elegant designs have been embraced from Harlem to Sowero, Lagos to Bahia, London to Tokyo, and New York to Kingston. Moshood is a bit of a local celebrity in the neighborhood. “I have been here for 25 years, and I love my customers. They are like family to me,” Moshood said. “Wear Moshood, Wear Yourself” is the motto of Moshood Creations. You can always spot a “Moshood,” as they stroll proudly down the block, their ensemble boldly announcing itself before they do.
This year marks the 25th anniversary of Moshood’s flagship Brooklyn store, which has become iconic in both Fort Grenne and Brooklyn as one of the few that has sustained and thrived thought the rapid changes in Brooklyn.
On Sunday, July 28th from 3 – 8PM, Moshood Creations will host its 25th annual fashion show and party outside its new Brooklyn location at 1368 Fulton Street, Broolyn NY 11216 (Restoration Plaza) to an eager crowd of 1000 onlookers and supporters.
