Black, Indigenous and Persons of Color (BIPOC) have much lower homeownership rates in New York City even though BIPOC individuals make up over half of New York City’s population. Existing barriers to homeownership include a lack of awareness about homeownership resources and processes; scarcity of affordable home supply; and insufficient financial support for prospective homebuyers. The Wealth Opportunity Realized Through Homeownership (WORTH) Initiative aims to tackle the barriers of creating and preserving homeownership for potential and current BIPOC homeowners.
