Brooklyn Business Center
The Brooklyn Business Center (BBC) has become a go-to resource for Central Brooklyn’s aspiring entrepreneurs and managers of existing organizations and start-ups. The BBC is part of the Bedford Stuyvesant Restoration Corporation (Restoration).
The BBC’s services include one-on-one business coaching, access to capital, mentoring, business planning classes, assistance preparing MWBE (Minority Owned Business Enterprise) applications and help writing business plans. We assist with locating third party resources such as pro bono legal and other professional services. In the past five years, the BBC has enabled clients to increase revenues by $3.1 million, obtain $2.4 million in financing and add 91 new employees and retain 85 employees. The BBC is funded in part by the New York State Entrepreneurial Assistance program and is an officially recognized Entrepreneurial Assistance Center.

We offer in-depth client engagement through our experienced staff. Our goal is to be an effective catalyst for business development in Bedford-Stuyvesant and other parts of Central Brooklyn.
One-on-One coaching and counseling
Clients can meet with our highly skilled counselors and obtain ongoing, free assistance to review any facet of their business. Our staff will work to understand your business needs and provide solutions specific to them. Whether you are starting or expanding your business, our counselors will work with you and provide the resources necessary to make impactful and actionable decisions.
One of the most pressing needs of small businesses is access to adequate capital. We have developed relationships with a number of financial institutions to meet this need. Our staff will work with you to help you secure grants, loans and venture capital at highly advantageous rates. Some of the financial institutions we work with are New York Business Development Corporation (NYBDC), Kiva Zip, Brooklyn Cooperative, BOC Capital, TD Bank and Carver Bank.
Workshops, Seminars, Webinars
BBC offers a variety of free or low-cost business training. Workshops and seminars are held on crucial business topics such as marketing, finance and accounting, gaining access to capital, general business management, and others. Instruction is provided by experienced managers and other local experts. These events also offer attendees the opportunity to meet other business owners in the community. Applying for MWBE Certification
BBC works with clients to certify their businesses as Minority and Women-Owned Business Enterprises. This is a major program of New York State and City to provide contracts to qualified firms. We assist with the 3-in-1 application to certify your business with the State, the City and the New York/New Jersey Port Authority.
The BBC has forged relationships with major New York City law firms that provide pro-bono legal assistance to clients. Upon qualification, a client can describe the type of services required, such as corporate formation or lease review, and work with a lawyer from one of these firms to accomplish their goals.
Business Planning & Implementation
We provide small business owners with ongoing assistance in developing business plans and implementing them. We also offer a 60-hour Business Planning course to help you plan, build and grow your enterprise. The course uses NxLevel materials and aims at helping participants prepare a formal plan by the end of the course.
