New York City Justice Corps Celebrated the First Graduation at Bedford Stuyvesant Restoration

Brooklyn, NY --- On June 10, Bedford Stuyvesant Restoration Corporation  celebrated the inaugural graduation of the New York City Justice Corps, a pilot program that gives formerly incarcerated young people between the ages of 18 and 24 with meaningful service opportunities within their communities, internships, jobs and educational support. The graduation is open to the public and scheduled for 6 p.m. at the Restoration Plaza Amphitheatre at 1368 Fulton Street in Brooklyn.

Restoration Operates Brooklyn Financial Empowerment Center

As part of Mayor Bloomberg's 18 initiatives to combat poverty in New York City, Bedford Stuyvesant Restoration Corporation has been selected  to operate and manage one of five sites of the Financial Empowerment Centers to offer free low cost financial services in Manhattan, the Bronx, Brooklyn and Queens with the fifth one opening in the fall (Staten Island).

Beautification of the Bed-Stuy Gateway streetscape receives major financial support

The project to beautify the Bed-Stuy Gateway streetscape has received a major boost from two of Bedford-Stuyvesant's biggest cheerleaders: Brooklyn Borough President Marty Markowitz and Council Member Al Vann, who have announced additional appropriations of $800,000 and $350,000 respectively towards the project.

June 19th marked the culmination of Bedford Stuyvesant Restoration Corporation's 40th Anniversary as the country's first community development corporation celebrated its annual Restoration Now Gala at Brooklyn's Stage 6 at Steiner Studios. Over 450 guests attended the event. With its theme of "Cultivating an Abundant Community", Restoration commemorated its place as a harbinger to the 3,000 CDCs that were to follow, planting the seeds of healthy and stable communities nationwide.
