Towns addressed questions and concerns from the audience on Federal policies effecting businesses and gave a brief overview of the Nation's efforts to improve the economy.

Bed Stuy Alive Kicks off with Street Festival and Restoration Rocks

Throngs of people came out for the kick off of the fifth annual Bed Stuy Alive, a week long festival designed to celebrate the treasures of the neighborhood. Fulton Street in front Restoration Plaza was shut down for vendors, dance performances and Brooklyn's hippest bands and artists. At the kick off ceremony, awards were presented to several community heroes in the name of Tohma Faulkner, a longstanding community activist and the founder of Bed Stuy Alive.

Restoration Center for Arts and Culture's Youth Arts Academy ( YAA) offers quality instruction to youth ages 3 to 18 in dance, theater, and African drumming. Over the course of two semesters, classes are offered at the Academy after school and all day on Saturdays. Through its Arts-In-Action program, YAA also provides arts instruction and professional development workshops in theater dance, and music to an average of 500 to 1000 students attending Brooklyn-based public schools. In late July, conscious hip hop duo, Dead Prez, released a new video for their single, Summertime, a hip hop/R&B track themed around reminiscent good times during the summer. Prominently featured in the video is a newly-minted mural painted in the heart of Bedford-Stuyvesant, Brooklyn by Corps members of Restoration’s NYC Justice Corps.
