Green Construction Graduation

On July 20th, Restoration held a graduation for its most recent cycle of Green Construction. To date, 52 men and women have graduated from the course, which provides 12 weeks of coursework in Construction and Weatherization, focusing on construction skills, concepts and practice of energy efficiency, airsealing, insulation and other techniques for managing air flow and moisture control in residential buildings. Nick Pomo, a graduate from Restoration’s first class addressed the graduates.

LISC’s Annual Neighborhood Tour

On Thursday, July 21st, Restoration hosted a tour of the community for LISC’s annual Neighborhood Tour. This year’s theme, Green and Healthy Communities, allowed Restoration to feature its Weatherization Assistance Program, one of the organization’s longest running and most successful programs, and its Environmental and Sustainability program, one of Restoration’s newest initiatives.

Bed Stuy welcomes its newest hot spot, the Vodou Bar. Entrepreneur and owner of Dahlia’s Café Daphnee Surpris celebrated the grand opening of her new venue on May 5. The event entitled, "The Initiation." featured a live jazz performance by renowned artists Arthur Kell and Jamie Foxwill and included complimentary hors d’oeuvres, desserts provided. Conveniently located on 95 Halsey Street between Nostrand Ave & Marcy Ave.

Despite the rain on Saturday, the plaza lobby was filled with a crowd that embodied the spirit of Earth week waiting for 160 trees to be distributed. The event was not only an opportunity for local residents to get trees for their back or front yard, but to sign up for a free or low cost audit via Retrofit Bed Stuy Block by Block, learn about Restoration’s services, and submit requests for water...

West Plaza Announcement

Restoration is pleased to announce that the much-anticipated West Plaza renovations are nearing completion with much of the Plaza deck and Building “A” finished by January 31, 2011. Improvements include new pavers and granite benches, the installation of planters and electrical upgrades, and a new roof on Building A. The installation of the Wall of Fame and state of the art technology is slated for the spring of 2011.

At a crowded ceremony with over 300 guests at the New York Public Library on Tuesday, November 16th, Bedford Stuyvesant Restoration Corporation (Restoration) was named one of two organizations to receive the coveted Bank of America Neighborhood Builders Award. Restoration was recognized for its commitment to community development in Central Brooklyn. Presenting the award to Restoration’s President Colvin W. Grannum was Jeff Barker, New York City president, Bank of America.

The Youth Arts Academy is proud, once again to have one of their students, Tremayne Rollins, receive the Audelco Rising Star Award. The Audelco Awards celebrate outstanding achievements in the American Theatre recognizing artists from African diaspora and beyond for their work on stage and behind the scenes. Tremayne ‘s ascension began at YAA and he is well on his way in show business. His list of credits continue to growth as a result of his training and performance opportunities at YAA.

Bedford Stuyvesant Restoration Corporation hosted its 29th Annual 10K Community Run and Fun Walk on Sunday, October 10th, 2010. The event was a great accomplishment with some 650 runners and walkers making it one of the most successful 10Ks in Restoration’s recent history. New to this year’s event, some 70 children aged 2-8 years old took part in Restoration’s First Annual Kiddie Run. All youth received medals commemorating their participation.
