One of our artists in residence is the Brooklyn Youth Chorus. BYC offers a weekly vocal music program at Bed-Stuy Restoration Corporation on Wednesdays. Students will sing, make new friends and perform twice a year for family and friends. BYC is holding auditions for interested 7- 9 year olds (2nd - 4th grade) in the upcoming weeks to start in early- to mid-September.

On Sunday, August 24 (and days before Michael Jackson's birthday August 29), thousands come out to celebrate the late iconic King of Pop with an all day dance party courtesy of filmmaker Spike Lee and 40 Acres and a Mule. The energy was palpable as the crowd danced to and crooned MJ's songs waving posters and placards with lyrics. One of day's highlights was when audience members were invited to show off their Michael Jackson dance moves.

On a bright and sunny Sunday, Aug. 24, filmmaker Spike Lee brought his “Brooklyn Loves Michael Jackson” celebration back to “Da People’s Republic of Brooklyn.” From noon to 6 p.m., in the beautifully refurbished Bed-Stuy Restoration Plaza, Lee hosted “the ultimate FREE Michael Jackson outdoor dance party!” with six hours of nonstop Michael by DJ Spinna. Ready to Learn Training

On June 4, 2014, Bedford Stuyvesant Restoration Corporation organized a training in partnership with Scholastic Books and several community organizations in Brooklyn to focus attention on the importance of early reading and nutrition on child development and school readiness. The Ready to Learn training offered a full-day workshop on early literacy and family engagement to staff from daycares, Head Starts, and elementary schools throughout Brooklyn.
