NEW YORK, NYSeptember 26, 2016: Last week the Bedford Stuyvesant Restoration Corporation (Restoration) cut the ribbon on the brand new 4,000-square-foot home for their award-winning Economic Solutions Center. The new home is located in the heart of Restoration Plaza (1368 Fulton Street) in Bedford-Stuyvesant and was made possible through funding from Home Depot and Robin Hood. The opening was sponsored by Fidelis Care.

 

"The Economic Solutions Center is one of the most successful programs Restoration offers. It's staff guides, supports and encourages individuals and families in our communities onto the path towards careers, economic stability and upward mobility,” said Colvin Grannum, the President and CEO of Bedford Stuyvesant Restoration Corporation. "Last year the Center served more than 7,000 people. With this new, state-of-the-art, highly visible ground level presence in the heart of Restoration Plaza, we will assist many, many more people move themselves and families towards their dreams and aspirations. We are so thankful for the support Home Depot and Robin Hood have given us that has made the new space possible, and we are grateful to Fidelis Care for helping make today’s grand opening such a wonderful occasion.” 

 

Restoration’s award-winning Economic Solutions Center is a one-stop shop for families that integrates training for job-seekers and placing them in jobs; educating program participants concerning the fundamentals of personal financial management and supporting them in achieving specific financial goals; and helping program participants, especially low-income workers, secure much-needed income supports to supplement their wages. In the past year, the work of the Economic Solutions Center placed close to 450 residents in jobs and helped generate over $15 million in cumulative benefits for the community through programs such as health insurance, Supplemental Nutrition Allowance Program (SNAP), tax refunds including Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC), personal debt reduction and savings increases.

 

“The Bedford Stuyvesant Restoration Corporation’s Economic Solutions Center is doing a truly remarkable job helping families in need get on the path to upward mobility. We are happy to support their work and are sure this new home will help them have a greater impact on the lives of New Yorkers struggling to make ends meet,” said Steve Lee, managing director, income security at Robin Hood.

"With this new Economic Solutions Center, we're excited about the increased potential for our longstanding partner, Bedford Stuyvesant Restoration Corporation, to connect even more people with the vital services they provide, including free financial counseling at the Financial Empowerment Center and free tax prep. It is partners like this who are key to our new mission to protect and enhance the daily economic lives of New Yorkers to create thriving communities.”

Previously, the Economic Solutions Center had been spread across two locations at Restoration Plaza. With a new, highly visible home located in the heart of Restoration Plaza, it will be able to serve even more people and have a greater impact.
