The 7th Annual Bed Stuy Alive! will take place from October 8th through October 15th, celebrating the rich history and diversity of the Bedford Stuyvesant community. This year’s theme is Live Healthy, Live Well, Live Green and will include green demonstrations and free health screenings.

Bed Stuy Alive is sponsored by the Bed Stuy Alive Collective: BESAA, Bedford Stuyvesant Restoration Corporation, Bedford Stuyvesant YMCA, Bridge Street Development Corporation, The Brownstoners of Bedford-Stuyvesant, Inc., Central Brooklyn Community Services, Community Board 3, Project 17 Realty & Associates Ltd.

Saturday, October 8th
Kicking off the week, Assemblywoman Annette Robinson will emcee the 3rd Annual Tohma Y. Faulkner Community Awards on Saturday, October 8th at 10am. The ten local heroes being honored include Art Trailblazer Emmett Wigglesworth; Community Champion Dourdy Jourdain, Executive Director, Bedford YMCA; Cultural Trailblazer Pamela Green, Executive Director, Weeksville Heritage Center; Economic Development-Trailblazers Eric Bullen, Owner, Al’s Men’s Shop; Esther Williams, Owner, Casablanca Lounge; new entrepreneur Winfield Harrell, III, Owner, Crave; Outstanding Educators Fela Barelift, Director, Little Sun People; Christopher Smith, Assistant Principal, Boys and Girls High School; and Youth Achievement Trailblazer Shyandre Terrell-Foskey, Boys and Girls High School.

“Bed-Stuy Alive! builds on the work of so many residents, from all walks of life, who dedicated themselves to the ongoing revitalization of our community. With the Tohma Y. Faulkner Awards, we honor their spirit. We hope folks from all over will come out and take part in the exciting October 8th kick-off, and come back again and again for the happenings during the week” says Brenda Fryson, Co-chair, Bed Stuy Alive Collective."

Following the ceremony at noon, Bedford Stuyvesant Restoration Corporation and Lyricist Lounge will present the 5th Annual Restoration Rocks music festival. This free concert is open to the public and will include performances by the Brooklyn Philharmonic, Mos Def, Idle Warship, Pharoahe Monch and local winners of an unprecedented online audition.

A street fair will take place from 10am through 5pm and include Bed Stuy Green Demonstrations, Healthy Bed Stuy Health Screenings and Information, Artists’ Row, Bed Stuy Food Court, Lively Kids’ Corner and the Bed Stuy Marketplace with hand-crafted wares from local artisans.

Sunday, October 9th,
Bedford Stuyvesant Restoration Corporation presents the 30th Annual 10K Community Run and Fun Walk. One of NYC’s premiere 10Ks, the race welcomes people of all ages and fitness levels. Registration begins at 8am with the race starting promptly at 10am. Kiddie Run, Awards Ceremony and post-race refreshments to follow. Click here for more information!

October 8th - 15th
Sponsored by Bridge Street Development Corporation & Bedford Stuyvesant Gateway Business Improvement District, Savor Bed Stuy provides discounts on meals at participating local restaurants. Look for the Bed Stuy Alive logo in participating windows.

Saturday, October 15th
The Bedford- Stuyvesant Artists’ Association presents the 8th Annual Studio Strut from 12pm through 7pm. This free, self-guided tour showcases the community’s many galleries. Begin by picking up your map at Zion Gallery, 152 MacDonough Street.

Sponsored by The Brownstoners of Bedford-Stuyvesant, the 33rd Annual House Tour of Bedford Stuyvesant will take place from 9am through 5pm. Tickets for the tour can be purchased at Old Boys High School between Marcy and Putnam Avenues. Visit for more information.
